How to Cold Cure Using the New iCure: Notes From the Test Bench

For the past several months, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Cannabis Curing Machine LLC testing the latest version of the iCure before its release. Five years ago, most people were simply happy to produce decent bubble hash. Today, consumers are comparing terpene profiles, debating jar tech, and discussing the ideal storage temperature for piatella on forums and at events like Spannabis and Mary Jane Berlin.

Expectations have changed.

If you’re putting months into growing exceptional flower, carefully washing fresh frozen material, freeze drying it correctly, and pressing it at the ideal temperature, it doesn’t make much sense to finish the process by throwing the final product into the family refrigerator next to a carton of milk.

My Testing Workflow

Week One

I intentionally opened the unit several times throughout the first few days to observe recovery times and monitor temperature stability.

The machine returned to the desired temperature surprisingly quickly.

More importantly, the products remained consistent.

Week Two

By the second week, texture changes began appearing.

The live rosin started developing the creamy consistency most solventless enthusiasts chase. The piatella began showing improved cohesion, while the temple balls continued maturing without any noticeable issues.

This is where consistency really started standing out.

In previous setups, I often found myself wondering:

“Is this changing because it’s curing properly, or because my refrigerator decided today was a good day to fluctuate by three degrees?”

With the iCure, that question disappeared.

Week Three and Beyond

After roughly thirty days of testing, every batch had behaved predictably.

That may not sound exciting, but consistency is one of the most valuable things a producer can ask for.

How to Cold Cure Using the New iCure

Step 1: Prepare Your Product

Ensure your product is ready for curing.

  • Press your rosin.
  • Complete your washing process.
  • Finish freeze drying if necessary.
  • Verify moisture levels.

Starting with a quality product is essential.

Step 2: Select Proper Containers

Use high-quality jars.

Personally, I prefer Miron jars for long-term storage, but Mason jars also perform well.

Avoid cheap containers whenever possible.

Step 3: Label Everything

Trust me on this one.

After a few weeks, six unlabeled jars begin looking remarkably similar.

Include:

  • Cultivar.
  • Production date.
  • Weight.
  • Starting temperature.
  • Intended cure duration.

Future you will be grateful.

Step 4: Set Your Temperature

Adjust the iCure according to the product you’re storing.

For most live rosin, I recommend beginning around 6°C and making adjustments based on your observations.

Step 5: Leave It Alone

This might be the hardest step.

Hash makers love checking on their products.

Resist the temptation.

Opening jars every few hours doesn’t make them cure faster.

In fact, some of my best results came from simply letting the process happen uninterrupted.

I know it’s tempting.

Your container matters.

If you’ve invested thousands into cultivation and extraction equipment, don’t cut corners on a jar.

Can you cold cure in a regular refrigerator? Absolutely.

I’ve done it.

Many of us have.

But after spending time with a machine specifically designed for the task, it’s difficult to go back.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple: preserve as much of the plant’s original character as possible.
